Had the Mountain Goat Cross-breed Black Pepperberry IPA the other week. Was. F***en. Awesome.

Also had the Little Creatures Quiet American, was ok nothing special. Not as good as the Double IPA they did before it, keen to try the new one they have out too.

Little Creatures last two beers (quiet american and the day of the long shadow) are weird and baffling and not entirely pleasant. yah, definitely prefer their big dipper IPA and the dreadnaught.

I sent them a tweet about their next single batch - It should be called Bock Bock Bock (and be a Texas bock) with a smoking chicken on the label

I love how they've managed to retain a bit of freshness from the IPA while making a dark beer

I love how they manage to make it when the two guys doing Yeastie Boys live in different cities, and the brewery is a third city.

Yeastie Boys are yet to put out a less-than-excellent beer.

What are some other good local porters/stouts I could try? Have already been smashing the 4 pines stout...the James Squire porter isn't bad either.

Southwark have just started kegging their old stout again after a 5 year break - look for it

Also in Adelaide two great stouts to try are the Lobethal Bierhaus Oatmeal Stout, and the Steam Exchange choc milk stout (with Haighs chocolate). Coopers Best Extra is always worthy. Oh yeah, and Brew Boys Ace of Spades.

Moo Stout, Mornington Porter, Murrays Heart of Darkness are some from the east coast

was disappointed with the Feral smoked porter, btw, too much smoke for a beer with such little body to it.

no, they aren't. There are plenty of beers in that style. The only one that takes the piss was the Mikkeller 1000 IBU light. Deliberately dropped the alcohol to make the beer undrinkable, and then pushed it out to see who would rate it high ...

just drinking a Raging Bull porter from Bootleg Brewery in Margaret River. Would be bloody hard to find on the east coast, I think, but very nice. Dark, sweet, goodness @ 7.1%

This is the beer thread, not the self flagellation (without the pain cos I am a pussy) thread.

Bought that Coopers Celebration 150 beer yesterday. Lovely old style amber / red ale.

Drinking a Monteiths Golden Lager atm. Not the Golden Ale (on tap at the Forresters) which is some kind of sublime, but the Golden Lager. Have now tried it on tap (at the Civic) and in the bottle and tap is better. But even from the bottle its still a nice drop.

Neither a porter nor a stout, but dark (and bona fide delicious) is Monteith's Doppelbock Winter Ale (and while NZ isn't technicaly local, sometimes you;ve just got to drink outside the square you live in).

Duuuude - red hill imperial stout - still on at the royston. I've seen the moo imperial kicking about and they've had some corkers rotating through at slowbeer.

Seedy Goat 2012

Last winter we collaborated with Seven Seeds Coffee Roasters to produce ‘Seedy Goat’ – a Coffee IPA. Well, guess what, we've brewed another one for 2012, same same but different.

This year the coffee we’ve chosen is the Nicaraguan Finca Jaime Molina Montecristo. You can call him Jaime (Hy-mee).*It displays notes of citrus, cherry and cocoa: These are elements we’ve matched to the hops in our IPA.

Grower Jaime Molina has been a Cup of Excellence Winner three years in a row – he knows his way around a coffee bean. The Seven Seeds guys imported it to Australia and roasted it ever so lovingly to keep the fruitiness in tact but deliver maximum coffee flavour.*

The beer is choc full fragrant Tasmanian Galaxy and US Cascade hops, with a big, malty mouthfeel to underline and support the fruitiness. For the tech heads, it comes in at 6.2% abv, 60BU.

Draught version is out now at Goat Bar, Cross Breed 640ml bottles to follow (very) shortly…

Sounds freakin' awesome.

Looking for some American beer tips from all the fine beer folk here as to what not to miss and what to look out for.

Will be around Boston, NY, Philly on the East. West is still in the air but won't be up north. Only just started looking and heard good things about Samuel Adams so far.

New York / Philly Area : Sixpoint, Yuengling, Brooklyn, Victory, Dogfish Head, Cigar City, Captain Lawrence, Hill Farmstead. You can hit up Brooklyn Brewery for tastings on a Friday night or during Saturday afternoon. Yuengling lager and Brooklyn lager (and to a lesser extent Bronx lager) are the best beers you find commonly on tap - and look out for the Sam Adams seasonals too.

Boston, most beers made locally are crappy - some of the worst beers I've tasted, but Sam Adams have a lot of tasty tap beers up there that don't really travel much that are well worth tasting. The brewery tour is good too.

Grand Ridge Hatlifter Stout. Smooth on the palette and not as intensely heavy as some other stouts. My regular go to for sure.

Gingerbread man has 70 taps on, blind tiger has roughly half that. Hop devil grill is ok but, more has too much of a sports bar atmosphere for my liking. Just nearby is Burp castle & Jimmy's 43 next door, these two are the pick of east village.

MOA 5 hop winter ale, also quality
Some dogfish head collab - pretty shitfaced by that stage but I remember thinking it was pretty good.

Also, apparently the wheaty have got some kegs of Hargreaves Hill ESB & Stout - both cracking beers.
